Why WordPress 4.1 is a giant leap for developers

Posted on 2014-12-19

I've quit blogging here.

This will be removed soon.

The jump from version 3 to 4 wasn’t the revolution we might have expected. Three months after release of WordPress 4.0 now version 4.1 “Dinah” is out and brings a few more visible changes.

First of all you will notice the new default Theme Twenty Fifteen, a really nice flat and clean blog theme with focus on typography. Another nice feature is the distraction free editor and also the new Inline Image Editing functions.

And of course there are a lot more changes under the hood (check out the list of changes).

Also there are some changes aiming Theme and Plugin developers. But the very best improvement for developers in my opinion is the ability to simply change the language from WordPress Admin Area. You can choose from more than 40 languages. If the language pack for the selected language is not installed yet WordPress installs it automatically. No need to download and install language packages manually and to change the language in the WordPress config file. This makes testing of translations a lot easier for developers. Thanks a lot for this great feature.
